With its ancient beginnings and traditional build techniques, oak frames are enjoying resurgence and are now being reinterpreted from a design sense to be found in many contemporary and award winning builds. All of us agree that for many projects, you guys are central to the smooth running of a build and pretty essential for good design, not to mention the planning and construction process. Not all of the architects that we deal with however are versed in the specialities of timber frame design and detailing – never mind a structural engineer that spends much time doing the calculations for green oak.
In a nutshell – we’re here to help – we have years and years of experience at hand so if your client wants to include some green oak in their project and you’d like us to provide the detailing of the design or if you want to speculatively include something in one of your proposals, please get in touch, we’re happy to help.
Many of our clients are much more eco-conscious nowadays and are making decisions about materials and sources of materials that have a more positive ecological effect – this is also something that is starting to become more common practise in obtaining planning permissions and likely to be even more so in the future. Green Oak is a very sustainable form of building and is only going to become even more popular.
If you have little or no experience of oak timber framing, and don’t know your cruck blade from your dragon beam, don’t worry – we’re keen to work together offering you guidance and support. If it’s just a straightforward one-off question that you need answering or a bit of advice about a project, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We’re always looking for architects to work with that have an interest in this traditional method of construction and can help some of our clients to realise their vision. If this is you – please give us a call.
